Quiet Start to 2011 Hurricane Season

The 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season officially started June 1st and so far has been quiet.  It is still early though as the peak of the season is still well ahead.  Most people have agreed that their will be above average number of storms this year.  NOAA is predicting 12-18 named storms, of which 6-10 will become hurricanes and 3-6 of those hurricanes will be classified as "major" hurricanes.  Colorado State University has predicted 16 named storms, 9 becoming hurricanes and 5 becoming major hurricanes.  On average the Atlantic Ocean sees 9.6 storms, 5.9 eventually becoming hurricanes and 2.3 becoming major hurricanes.  The most ever seen was 28 storms. 15 were hurricanes and  8 of those hurricanes were major hurricanes.
